Counseling

Welcome to our guidance and counseling program at Ermineskin Elementary School.

Our guidance and counseling service is an integral component of our school program. It supports and fosters the Cree traditions and values and is centered on helping all students meet their individual developmental needs. We have established a collaborative partnership with the community and parents of our students, but also, with organizations outside the community.

We offer the following services:

  • Individual Counseling – A direct service provided by the counselor. Students share their feelings and develop positive solutions to cope with situations in their personal lives.
  • Group Counseling – A counselor and an Elder focus on intervention and pro-active strategies. By engaging in various learning activities, students explore alternative methods and positive ways to express their emotions and how to interact with others in a positive manner. This in turn, will help build relationships and develop communication skills.
  • Elders Guidance Counseling – Elders provide guidance for individual students. The Elders reinforce the Cree values that help the students gain an understanding of respect for self and others.
  • Rainbows – an international grief support charity, which helps children reconcile the emotional pain of death, divorce and other loss.

Our counselors work hard to develop and maintain warm, comfortable working relationships with the students. It is within this welcoming atmosphere that growth can occur. You can contact our guidance counselors at the school.
