Request Submission Guidelines

You can submit all maintenance requests for service from Facilities Management by going to the web site (www.miyo.ca) and clicking on Operation&Maintenance. Click on the link for Maintenance Request and fill out the request as accurate as you can. Please specify your building and room number to help us solve your problem faster. In cases of Emergency call 585-2229 emergency maintenance, necessary maintenance work requests are issued. The requests are then assigned to the appropriate Facilities Management trade(s) utilizing a priority system of numbers one to three, with one classified as top priority.

Maintenance Work Request Priorities:

Number one: Emergency situations which may pose a threat or major inconvenience to members of the educational community or place educational facilities, or parts thereof, in jeopardy.

Number two: Routine/normal work that will generally be accomplished 24 hours after being received or soon thereafter. May involve more than one day if repairs require parts procurement and/or scheduling.

Number three: Work that needs to be done that will not result in a major negative impact if not completed. Also included in this category are all construction projects, modifications, moves or rearrangements.

Routine and emergency maintenance includes:

  • Air conditioning and refrigeration where applicable
  • Electrical work
  • Plumbing and heating
  • Carpentry work minor
  • Roofing
  • Floor coverings
  • Locksmith work
  • Painting
  • Furniture and equipment
  • Function set-up (Supply Only)
  • Plastering and drywall repairs
  • Temperature control

Additionally, Facilities Management inspectors periodically inspect buildings, hardscape and equipment inventory for deficiencies. Members of the university community will also observe uniformed Facilities Management personnel routinely performing preventive maintenance operations throughout the campus.

Utilities

Minimizing energy use on campus requires a mutually supported effort between Facilities Management and all other members of the campus community. While we strive to minimize energy use through efficient maintenance of the buildings and their energy using systems, the support of the campus community at the user level also is required to ensure the reduction of energy use.

Actions that campus members can take to conserve energy and other resources include:

  • Turn off lights, fans or other equipment in offices, classrooms, CTS areas, offices etc.
  • Close blinds and drapes in the evening to reduce heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer.
  • Turn off water faucets completely.
  • Report broken windows and/or improperly closing doors to the maintenance staff.
  • It is recommended that thermostat temperature settings not exceed 68 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter or be set lower than 72 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer. The cooperation of all departments in accepting these guidelines will contribute significantly to reducing energy use.
